Thanks to interest in extractive industry in the Sulcis Iglesiente area, during the last 150 years a huge human, historical and cultural heritage was created. The construction of roads, dams and railways were launched for the development of the region; many villages for miners arose in the area together with facilities to welcome the increasing population working in the mining sector. Then, most of the cultural heritage – we can see in the Sulcis area, nowadays – come from the birth of the Sabaudo Kingdom of Sardinia up to the closing of the mines occurred at the beginning of the 90’s.

This seems to be related to the average distance grains jump (“Sand Dunes”, 1999). My hypothesis is that the height and spacing between sand dunes will both increase as wind velocity increases because faster winds can carry more sand (leading to bigger dunes) and make grains go farther (leading to greater distance between dunes).

The largest reserves are found in the United States, Russia, China and India. At current rates of production, coal reserves would last for about 150 years. In contrast, proven oil and gas reserves are equivalent to around 50 and 52 years at current production levels. How can coal reserves be extended?
